Light can transform the way a material is experienced, revealing texture, creating reflection, or shifting the atmosphere of a room throughout the day. This week, we’re looking at pieces that explore that relationship of light from different perspectives, whether filtered through layered pine veneer or hand-blown glass or mirrored off glass and sculptural screens. The result is a collection where light and shadow become part of the design itself. NOKORI Giopato & Coombes A brand new collection from Giopato & Coombes, Nokori approaches light as something contained within the material rather than simply cast onto it. Hand-blown Murano glass forms layered, dimensional surfaces that hold the light within their sculptural forms, allowing it to trace their contours and reveal subtle variations in depth. The collection moves between geometric precision and organic softness, creating luminous objects that shift in presence as the surrounding light changes. Available as a pendant, wall sconce, table lamp, or floor lamp. GLACIER Patricia Urquiola New from Glas Italia, Patricia Urquiola's Glacier collection transforms glass into something unexpectedly physical. Colored glass is fused onto an extralight glass sheet at high temperatures, creating an irregular, layered surface that recalls the shifting formations of ice. The resulting material catches and alters light across its surface, while the transparent glass base gives the table an almost weightless quality. Available in a variety of sizes and colors. HANS PENDANT Hans-Agne Jakobsson Originally designed by Hans-Agne Jakobsson in the 1960s, the 1003 Hans Pendant uses layered pine to create a warm, diffused glow. Vaarnii has re-engineered the design using solid Finnish pine and high-quality pine veneer, allowing the natural grain and tonal variation of the wood to remain central to the piece. As light filters through the layered shade, the material takes on a soft, almost luminous quality. Currently on display in our showroom. FRAGMENT SCREEN Nendo Fragment turns a room divider into an exploration of reflection and transparency. Hinged glass panels are set within a polished aluminum frame, creating changing reflections as the screen is viewed from different angles. The interplay with transparency, reflection and depth projects a fragmented, mirrored reflection on both sides. The effect is part sculpture, part scrim, shifting from opaque to transparent as you move. This superb design by Japanese designer Nendo is modular and panels can be added to fit any configuration. F.A. 33 MIRROR Gio Ponti Gio Ponti's F.A. 33 Mirror is as much about light and space as it is about reflection. Originally designed in 1933, its gently curved silhouette and black brass frame give the mirror a quiet architectural presence, while its reflective surface opens up the room around it. Available in two sizes, it works equally well as a functional mirror or as a decorative element that captures and redirects light.
