Wood has always been more than a material. It carries the history of where it grew, the hands that shaped it, and the traditions that continue through each new generation of makers. This week, we celebrate five brands that place wood at the center of their practice, approaching it not simply as a resource, but as a living material worthy of respect. Through thoughtful sourcing, enduring craftsmanship, and an honest expression of grain, each piece reveals the quiet beauty that only wood can offer.
ELMYR DINING TABLE
Christopher Hardy
The Elmyr Dining Table from Archivism celebrates the expressive character of solid wood through bold architectural form. Crafted in the United States from ethically sourced American walnut, white oak, or blackened ash, the table highlights the natural beauty of each species while showcasing meticulous woodworking throughout its sculptural trestle base. Large exposed dowel joinery and carefully balanced proportions lend the piece a quiet monumentality, allowing the integrity of the material to remain at the forefront.
POLLOCK TABLE
Dan Pollock
Each Pollock Table begins its life as a reclaimed tree recovered from the forests of California. Rather than disguising the wood’s history, Dan Pollock carefully hand carves and finishes each piece to reveal the grain, knots, and natural character accumulated over decades of growth. No two tables are alike, making every example a singular work that exists somewhere between functional furniture and sculpture, while honoring the forest from which it came. This piece is currently on display in our showroom.
PP250 VALET
Hans J. Wegner
The PP250 Valet Chair demonstrates the extraordinary versatility of solid wood through one of PP Møbler’s most celebrated designs. Crafted with exceptional precision, the chair performs multiple roles at once, serving as a chair, valet, and personal organizer without sacrificing elegance. Every curve, joint, and carved detail reflects the Danish maker’s unwavering commitment to traditional cabinetmaking, allowing the warmth and beauty of the timber to define the piece.
005 LOUNGE
Max Lamb
The 005 Lounge Chair reflects Vaarnii’s distinctive philosophy of embracing Finnish pine for exactly what it is. Rather than refining away its knots, grain, and natural variation, the chair celebrates these characteristics as an essential part of its identity. Robust in construction yet remarkably inviting, the generous pine sections emphasize the honesty of the material.
CURTAIN DINING TABLE
Läufer and Keichel
The Curtain Dining Table from Zeitraum explores the expressive possibilities of solid wood through remarkable restraint. Crafted from sustainably sourced hardwood, its softly profiled top appears to float above a rhythmic arrangement of slender vertical elements that give the table its name. The interplay of light, shadow, and finely detailed joinery creates a composition that feels delicate and structural, allowing the natural character of the wood to become the defining feature of the design.
