Neat Noon Table Lamp

El Schmid, 2006

OVERVIEW

Neat Noon is the perfect bedside lamp or desk lamp. The desire for simplicity and the pleasure in pure design led to a geometrical abstraction of natural branch forms resulting in Zeitraum's Noon range of lamps. The iron frame is rigidly constructed while the glassine lampshades give a soft light. The dark patina and the waxed finish give the iron a soft and warm appearance. The intrinsic value of the lamps is in the hand-crafted details.

Life shapes design for designer El Schmid. Schmid is originally from Austria, where he was born in 1953, but now works and lives in Spain. He started working with metal during his apprenticeship as a craftsman. In a second apprenticeship in Munich, he became familiar with materials such as brass, bronze, and silver, and later studied graphic design, in which he obtained a degree with honors in "Corporate Identity Design." Together with his partner in Munich, he founded Schmid & Stemmann in 1981.

In his own master workshop, he dedicated 10 years to the creation of individual designer pieces which influenced the Munich design-scene during that period. In the catalogue "Nouvelles Tendances," the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris described the work of the duo as “A wonderful luxury of the new German design.” In 1992, he moved to Seville with his family where EL Schmid and his design continue to evolve.
