The Appenzeller series explores a dialogue between the applied arts and fine arts—shaped by a distinct culture of eighteenth century handicrafts from Eastern Switzerland. Appenzeller belts are a prime example of legacy Swiss craft—made for hundreds of years and ornamented with metal fittings. The more decoration a belt had, the higher the individual’s status was. The table’s distinctive build is inspired by practical forms found in traditional tables from the Rhine Valley. Its robust top, made lighter through subtle edge detailing, floats above legs that gently taper at their base. A soft-close drawer, adorned by traditional brass ornaments from Appenzell, provides storage for linens and silverware.
