Zen New York Armchair
The Zen New York Armchair represents one of the most significant late-career achievements in the work of Åke Axelsson. Developed for the Economic and Social Council chamber at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, the chair was selected to replace seating that had served the historic space for more than seventy years. The design builds upon Axelsson’s earlier Zen chair, refined here for the demands of a high-profile public setting through subtle ergonomic and structural adjustments. Fully upholstered with a solid ash frame, the chair reflects the principles that defined Axelsson’s work throughout his career.
